||||||||||||
![]() |
On this tribute to the second wave of Jazz composers from the 50s like Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons, Sonny Rollins, and Horace Silver among others, Straight Ahead spotlights John Heard on bass leading a group of outstanding musicians such as Danny Grisset on piano, Lorca Hart on drums, Herman Riley on sax/flute and Nolan Shaheed on trumpet and flugelhorn. John Heard played in the day, when he was a kid of 17, with Stanley Turrentine, Booker Irvin, Horace Parlan and Roland Kirk and as such when asked about recording iconic tunes like Soulville, Ruby My Dear, and Lester Left Town among others replied I aint afraid of these songs, Ill put together a quintet and well put a smile on them again. When you hear what John and company have done you too will have a smile on your face. And just so you know, that great cover shot is a copy of a silkscreen done by John Heard - a natural artist at home with either of the two arts! Available on Dual Disc (CD on one side - high resolution 96/24 quality DVD-A and/or DVD-V audio on the other) and on LP pressed on Classic Records proprietary 200g Super Vinyl Profile. Produced by Stewart Levine, mastered by Bernie Grundman, recorded and mixed directly to two track by Scott Sedillo using equipment designed and built by the Chief Electronic Design Engineer at BGM - Beno May. |
